The Project: Cool Designs LTD
Full-Scale Corporate Signage
Moving into their new Holmes Chapel office, CDL (Cool Designs Ltd) knew they needed to brand the new space to welcome staff and customers.
With ideas brewing for both internal and external signage, CDL came to Design Office. As a long-standing marketing partner, they knew we were ready and excited to expand their brand and introduce exciting new ideas.
First established in 2003, CDL are a renowned air conditioning retailer engineering, partnering with recognised brands such as Toshiba, Fujitsu & Riello.
Uncovering The Potential
Site Survey For Commercial Signage
After discussing the initial brief with the client, our signage team headed out to the offices – branding in mind – to explore the project’s potential.
Utilising over 30 years of experience in business signage a range of elements were considered; ensuring optimal visibility for both visitors & the public, scale of the required signs & their placement and what materials to maximise the impact.
Keeping hold of a handy tape measure at all times, our team measured up the designated locations ready for our designers to design the branded signage.
Shaping Your Own Space
Developing Company Branding
With measurements, branding and inspiration, our design team were ready to get stuck into the CDL internal and external corporate signage project.
Working with an established brand, our design team set individual designs for over 20 signs maintaining a consistent aesthetic and aligning precise elements. Utilising the distinct blue and red found within the company logo a framework border for the larger signs was created, along with the signature darker tones of the background gradient gave our design team the base to build upon across all signs, ensuring the whole business sign project was uniform throughout the building.
From here the CDL logo and tagline were added to the precisely sized signs. Maintaining a balance throughout, our team played with an array of layouts that perfectly fit the designated space and showcased the information in a sensible and easy-to-read manner.
Larger Internal Signs
As part of the project, we wanted to explore the possibilities of indoor commercial signage for the new space. This included the brushed aluminium “partnership” signage for the main landing area of the building.
Incorporating 3D cut lettering and a selection of partnering companies all set on brushed aluminium], templates were designed for each to be precisely cut ensuring no misaligned details or misshapen elements were manufactured.
Developing Mock-ups
Once unique designs for all locations had been created to the exact measurements, we transformed the flat graphics to inhabit a three-dimensional space. Setting mock-ups utilising photos taken during the site survey, all internal and external business signs are placed into the desired location – matching scale and angle.
Taking another trip to the new CDL offices, we presented the full signage suite along with the mock-ups allowing the client to truly get a feel for the branded space before manufacturing begins.
From Concept To
Reality
Businesses Signage Manufacturing
With the all-new business signage signed off by the client, the designs were passed as print-ready files to our in-house print and signage manufacturing team.
Materials at the ready, our large format printers were fired up. Colour-matching each print as they were produced, the entire suite would be printed with no mismatched elements for a cohesive appearance throughout the entire building.
Once printed, each design was carefully laid onto the corresponding materials, perfectly aligning the sizes to the original survey measurements.
Making An Impact At
All Heights
Sign Installation Services
Time to bring the project to life. Our fully qualified fitting team coordinated with the client and arranged the perfect date and time for the installation to begin.
With signs affixed to the curb of the company car park to the elevated heights of the third story of the building, our team completed all necessary safety checks for themselves and the people working at CDL prior to beginning the job.
Overcoming Challenges
Once most of the internal and external signs had been installed around the building, it came time to affix the 4.6m x 1.23m main sign to the front of the building. This is where an unexpected obstacle presented itself to the signage team – the brickwork wasn’t aligned.
This meant the flat base of the sign was unable to be safely secured to the wall without the guarantee of damage or the sign potentially becoming dislodged in the future.
With some quick thinking the signage team, came up with the solution. Constructing a template for the sign to sit upon, giving the external business sign more stability and ensuring each angle and distance between the brickwork was accounted for.
Now safely affixed to the external wall of the building, using the bespoke template, the CDL main business sign will be safe and secure for years to come.
The Final Result
Finalising the project in late February, the new CDL offices are open and ready for business partners and visitors to explore all the company has to offer.
With 20+ office signs now throughout the building, the company branding can be seen truly encapsulating the environment, representing the brand as well-established, expansive and trusted by many throughout the industry.
