Video content is the new normal, every day we’re all bombarded with information from different advertisements. Whether you’re a Netflix binger, a social scroller or prime time peruser, it’s impossible to avoid consuming content tailored to you and this should be no different for current and prospective parents of your school, so it’s time to embrace the power of promotional videos for schools.
Being on the front lines of school video production, we’ve directed promotional videos that showcase how powerful, successful and cost-effective video production can be for the education sector and school marketing plans.
Let’s make learning a visual adventure and delve into the benefits of promotional videos for schools, academies, colleges and universities.
Video Marketing Is The New Normal
Why Integrate Video Into Your Marketing Plan
Building relationships with prospective parents should be a key component of your marketing plan. Even before they step foot through your doors parents and children should have an understanding of your school’s ethos, values and environment – video marketing is the ideal way to make sure these messages reach their intended audience.
The Art Of Storytelling
Your school, no matter the education level or size, has a story to tell, a story that the local community wants to hear before enrolling their children. With video marketing, what can be said in a thousand words of a prospectus can be told through a 2-minute emotionally driven, thought-provoking video told by pupils and faculty that is more likely to hold your audience’s attention and deliver your ideal message.
Used to educate, entertain and market to your audience, video storytelling as part of your school’s marketing plan brings life to ideas and personalities and allows you to convey your school character in a matter of minutes.
Endless Possibilities
Every day at school, new and different activities take place from scheduled lessons and new equipment arriving to sports days and graduations – all of which can be used to showcase your wonderful, unique school.
Nothing is too big or too small to be transformed into an engaging video to highlight different elements of your school. Think of taking an ordinary science lesson and bringing in a discrete camera crew to create an engaging short-form video of the excitement and focus behind every teacher and pupil or transform your sports day into a display of hard work and success amongst pupils trying their best to reach for the gold as a dedicated marketing tool to show current and prospective parents.

Promotional School Event Videography
Childwall Sports & Science Academy
As an annual tradition, “World In One School Week” at Childwall Sports & Science Academy extends beyond the school grounds and throughout the city. Our videography team was invited to capture, edit, and showcase the remarkable experiences shared by both students and teachers.
We aimed to produce a promotional video that highlights not only the educational opportunities presented during the event but also the enthusiasm and engagement of everyone involved.
Throughout the four days, we documented various activities and conducted interviews with students and teachers to capture their thoughts and feelings about their experiences. The final promotional video will serve as an inspiring reminder of education’s ability to broaden perspectives and ignite passions.
How To Plan for a School Video Shoot
Planning a successful video shoot for your school involves careful preparation and collaboration. With the right approach, you can create engaging content that effectively showcases your school’s unique character and offerings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure your video shoot runs smoothly and achieves your marketing goals.
#1 Define Your Objectives
Before diving into production, clearly outline what you want to achieve with your video. Are you aiming to boost enrollment, promote a specific event, or highlight unique programs? Establishing your objectives will guide the entire planning process and help shape your messaging.
#2 Identify Your Audience
Understanding your target audience is crucial. Consider who will be watching your video—prospective parents, current students, or the local community. Tailor your content to resonate with their interests and needs, ensuring that the themes you choose align with their expectations and aspirations for their children’s education.
#3 Assemble Your Team
Collaborate with those who are passionate about your school’s story and can contribute authentic viewpoints. Additionally, talk to the Design Office team on 01270 252106 to learn more about creating your own school promotional video.
#4 Choose the Right Setting
Select locations within your school that best represent your environment and culture. Whether it’s vibrant classrooms, engaging extracurricular activities, or expansive outdoor spaces, showcasing these areas can provide a genuine glimpse into daily life at your school.

#5 Plan Your Shots
Create a shot list that outlines key scenes you want to capture. Include interviews with students and faculty, classroom activities, and special events. Consider varying the types of shots—close-ups, wide angles, and action shots—to keep the video visually engaging. A well-structured plan will help you make the most of your shooting day.
#6 Schedule Wisely
Timing is everything. Coordinate your shoot around school events or busy periods to ensure minimal disruption. Communicate with staff and students about the schedule to ensure everyone involved is prepared and excited for the shoot. Flexibility is key, as spontaneous moments can often lead to the best footage.
#7 Prepare Your Participants
Before the cameras roll, prepare students and faculty for their on-camera appearances. Share tips on how to speak naturally and authentically, and encourage them to share their genuine experiences and feelings about the school. A little rehearsal can go a long way in boosting confidence and ensuring impactful storytelling.
#8 Capture B-Roll
Don’t forget to capture B-roll footage—additional shots that complement your main content. This could include candid interactions, campus landscapes, or dynamic classroom activities. B-roll enhances the storytelling and gives your video depth and context, making it more engaging for viewers.
#9 Review and Edit
After the shoot, collaborate with your videography team to review the footage. Discuss which clips align with your objectives and story, and start the editing process. Focus on crafting a cohesive narrative that effectively communicates your school’s ethos and values while maintaining a visually appealing format.
Primary School Videography
Woore Primary & Nursery School
Focusing on younger pupils as they first begin their educational adventure, our shoot plan with Woore began with examining the school motto ‘Aim high…because everything is possible!’. Learning through a combination of traditional lessons and play, our team immersed ourselves in the world that surrounded the pupils to capture an authentic look into the school.
With pre-planned vox pops from teachers, pupils and parents we knew exactly where to be and when to capture the story of daily life learning with the school.
The Power of Social Media
Social media is essential for schools aiming to connect with prospective families. With millions of active users across various platforms, leveraging social media to promote your school’s video content can significantly enhance your marketing efforts.
Understanding where your target demographic spends their time is crucial; platforms like Facebook and Instagram are great for engaging parents, while TikTok and YouTube can attract younger audiences. Creating shareable content with captivating visuals and compelling storytelling encourages viewers to spread the word, expanding your school’s visibility.
To further boost the reach of your video through social media, several platforms offer paid advertising options allowing you to target specific audiences directly. Unsure of how to approach this, talk to the Design Office team and our experts will work with you to launch a successful social media ad campaign.
By incorporating social media into your marketing strategy, you can effectively showcase the unique experiences your school offers and inspire confidence in potential families.
